You asked… and we’re delivering!

After sharing about this special piece of St. Mark history, several of you asked to see the Blessed Mother statue gifted to St. Mark School by Fr. Fitz from Blessed Fulton Sheen.

Here she is.

She has quietly watched over generations of Marksmen, and now the story behind her has a special place beside her for everyone to see.

A beautiful reminder that a little piece of Blessed Fulton Sheen’s story lives right here at St. Mark. 💙💛

Next time you’re in the building, stop by and take a look!

📣 St. Mark Families: Your Voice Matters!

Bishop Tylka is asking Catholic school families across Illinois to learn more about the new Federal Scholarship Tax Credit Program and to contact Governor Pritzker regarding Illinois’ participation.

If Illinois participates, the program could provide additional resources for students... including assistance with Catholic school tuition, educational programs, supplies, technology, and more.

We encourage our Marksmen families to read Bishop Tylka’s letter, learn more about the program, and consider making your voice heard.

💙💛 Supporting Catholic education starts with staying informed... and speaking up for our students!

Please visit https://www.ilcatholic.org/federal-scholarship-tax-credit-program/ for more information and to learn how to send a message to the Governor and ask him to opt-in to the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit. You can also call the Governor's office directly at 217.782.6830.

The tools change.
The mission doesn't.
St. Mark proclaimed the Gospel with the written word. Blessed Fulton Sheen carried it through radio and television. Today, each of us is called to share Christ through the way we speak, serve, love and live.
That's evangelization.
And that's a pretty fitting lesson for a school named St. Mark. 💙💛

Let’s play a little WHERE’S WALDO: ST. MARK EDITION! 💛🔎

We’ve been searching through photos from yesterday’s historic Beatification of Blessed Fulton J. Sheen in St. Louis, looking for some familiar St. Mark faces.
And our FIRST MARKSMAN SPOTTING goes to…
Dominic Taylor!

Dominic is one of our own and is currently a seminarian for the Catholic Diocese of Peoria. We spotted him among the seminarians at the Beatification!

Now it’s YOUR turn.

Were you there yesterday? Drop your photos in the comments so we can see how many members of our St. Mark family we can find!

Bonus points if we have to zoom wayyyyy in. 😂
Ready… set… FIND THE MARKSMEN! 🔎💙💛

He was a student.
He was a teacher.
He was a priest.
He was a communicator.

And through all of it, his mission stayed the same: bring people closer to Christ.

More than 100 years after young Fulton Sheen attended Catholic school here in Peoria, that mission continues in Catholic classrooms today.

Who knows what God is preparing our Marksmen to do? 💙💛

Before Fulton Sheen carried the Gospel around the world, he lived here. He worshiped here. He was part of our Catholic community in Peoria and part of the story of St. Mark.

He didn’t just pass through Peoria. He lived among us. And reminders of his faith and generosity are still among us, too.

There’s something pretty incredible about walking the same streets, worshiping in the same places, and realizing that someone who would go on to touch millions of lives once called this little corner of the world home.
History isn’t always somewhere else. Sometimes, it’s right here. 💙💛

Before podcasts. Before YouTube. Before Facebook. Before Reels… there was Fulton Sheen.

Long before “going viral” was a thing, a priest from right here in the Diocese of Peoria was using the newest technology of his time to share the Gospel with millions.

As a school named for St. Mark the Evangelist, we think that’s pretty amazing.

Different century. Different platform. Same mission: Share the Good News.

This week, we celebrate as Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen prepares to be beatified! 💙💛

We’re kicking off Sheen Week at St. Mark!

Today marks 107 years since Fulton J. Sheen was ordained a priest in Peoria. What a special way to begin a week of remembering his life, his witness, and his connection to our community.

MEET MRS. HOWELER!

We’re excited to welcome Mrs. Alyce Howeler back to St. Mark!

Mrs. Howeler is joining us as our 3rd & 4th Grade ELA Teacher... and this isn’t her first time as a Marksman! She previously taught 5th grade right here at St. Mark and brings years of experience from both Catholic and public schools.
We’re so happy to have her back where she belongs!

Take a minute to get to know Mrs. Howeler below, and help us give her a BIG St. Mark welcome!

Once a Marksman, Always a Marksman! 💙💛

It was a great first week at SMS! Here's what you missed:

* We started with the Taste of St. Mark's as students met their teachers!
* We welcomed back our students!
* We had our first "Walking Taco" lunch. (And the burning question Joey had - "Can you eat a walking taco sitting down??!!)
* Our new basketball hoops were installed! (Thank you Friends of St. Mark's!)
* Students enjoyed a game of 5-on-5 on their own with no adults having to intervene. (That's a form of learning, too!!!!)

Don't you wish you were here???!!!!! COME BE A MARKSMEN!!!!

Look who stopped by!

We had a visit from some familiar St. Mark faces today! Some of our longtime staff (NOT old… longtime 😂) were thrilled to see these former teachers, while a few of our newer staff may have been thinking, “Who are all these people?”

Either way, it was so good to see them back in the halls where they spent so many years making a difference.
