Happy Friday! Thank you to everyone who to participated in our first Career and Resource Fair last night. It was a great success!
Virtue of the Month-Gratitude
During the month of November, in the spirit of giving, there will be several opportunities to show our gratitude for all that we have, and help those less fortunate. The week of November 12th will be “Give Back” week at SMS. We will be holding a canned food drive, sponsored by Student Council.
Students and staff are invited to participate in Jeans for Genes day for a $1 buyout. It will be on Thursday, November 15th. Jeans can be paired with your favorite purple shirt in support of cystic fibrosis or an SMS spirit shirt.
The SMS cheerleader will also be holding the following fundraising events next week.
Tuesday- hot chocolate and treat sale after school everything $1
Wednesday- bake sale after school everything $1
Thursday- CF cookie sale $1 for 2
Friday- 65 roses sale $5
(65 roses started when a little boy thought instead of Cystic Fibrosis it was called 65 roses)
Each class is invited to bring change all week for a class competition. The winning class will receive popcorn and movie party. “We can’t CHANGE our genes but we can collect CHANGE for a cure”
All proceeds made this week will be donated to the Peoria Area Cystic Fibrosis chapter in honor of one of our fellow Marksmen.
*Participation in these opportunities for giving is completely optional!

For those not familiar with the program, it is a free after school tutoring program offered by Bradley University students. The program is offered Monday-Thursday. There are two sessions: 3-3:45 PM and 3:45-4:30 PM. Your child may attend one or two sessions per week. More information is available on the application. The spring session begins Monday, February, 4th.
8th Grade Confirmation Project
Two of our 8th graders will be hosting a bake sale after the 4:30PM, 9AM, and 11AM Masses on November 17th and 18th. All proceeds will be donated to St. Mark School.
Please remember that from November 1st until April 1st, shorts and skorts are not allowed as part of the uniform. Sweatpants and flannel pants can be worn under skirts and jumpers on the playground for warmth, but are not allowed in the building. Girls may wear leggings under jumpers and skirts, but all leggings must be ankle length solid black or navy. Also, please remember that only the royal or navy St. Mark sweatshirts are part of the uniform. IESA sweatshirts can be worn outside for warmth, but are considered spirit wear, not part of the uniform.
Students need appropriate clothing for outdoor recess. Many students did not have warm coats, gloves, and hats for recess this week. Please remember to mark all clothing with names so that lost items can be returned to their rightful owners.

Illinois Invest in Kids Tax Credit Scholarship Program
The Invest in Kids Scholarship is offered through the Illinois’ Tax Credit Scholarship program and generates private dollars for K-12 scholarships to low-income and working-class students who attend qualified non-public schools throughout Illinois.
St. Mark had $58,000 available to award families. 87 students applied for assistance and 19 students were awarded scholarships. This was 20% of the students needing assistance for this school year. Based on need and first-come, first-serve basis, these families received 100%, 75%, or 50% of their tuition, and the donor receives a 75% Illinois tax credit on the amount of their donation to the SGO, Scholarship Granting Organization. We are grateful to all of our donors, and truly appreciate their help!
As you can see, we still have a great need for donations. Please contact the school office if you would like more information on the tax benefits of donating.
The largest fundraiser for the school is looking for your help! St. Mark’s School’s 20th auction will be held on March 30! We are looking for another co-chair as well as help with all the committees (acquisitions, decorations, set up, dessert dash, etc.) for this very fun event! Interested in helping or learning more? Please contact Maria Carroll at firstname.lastname@example.org.
