Happy Friday! We are back in full swing; running a regular day schedule. Beginning of the year MAP and Easy CBM testing are complete. We will begin our September testing with ITBS testing for grades 3, 5, and 7 later this month.

Students in grades 5-8 will begin using their Chromebooks in classes next week. Before students are allowed to take their devices from class to class, the Chromebook Policy acceptance form MUST be signed and returned to their homeroom teacher. A copy of the policy has been given to all students in Middle School. Please take the time to review the contents with your child. This policy was sent with all middle school students today. Signed policy sheets are due on Monday.

Christmas Card Design Contest

This year, the Chancery has asked that Bishop Jenky’s Christmas card be designed by our Catholic school children.

Students may choose to design the front of the card based on one of three Christmas themes: the Nativity, Mary, or Bishop Jenky. Any media is fine: paint, markers, colored pencils, cut paper, etc.

From all submissions received, two students from the Peoria diocese will be chosen to display their artwork on Bishop’s Christmas card, which is sent to dioceses throughout the United States.

If you are interested in participating, please submit artwork no larger than 9” x 12” to the office or to Mrs. Tomlins by Friday, September 21, 2018.

Lego League

Is your child in 4th grade or older, and like problem solving, working in teams, and have an interest in science and technology? SMS has two Lego League teams and has a few available spots for new team members.

If your child(ren) are interested or you have further questions, please email leslie_foti by next Wednesday, September 12.

Update of 2018-2019 School Tuition Assistance across the Diocese of Peoria….

The need for financial assistance is great across the diocese, with families completing FACTS applications for Spalding assistance for almost 2,900 students. Spalding Scholarships totaling $628,995 were awarded to 722 students for the 2018-19 school year. The total amount awarded exceeded the Spalding Scholarship Board’s approved amount knowing that plans change and not all students will be accepting the scholarships. Fortunately, another source of funding for 2018-19 is the Invest in Kids Tax Credit Scholarship Program legislation passed in late 2017. Awarding is still ongoing, but to date, Empower Illinois has granted awards to 251 student in 25 of the Peoria Diocese Schools for the 2018-2019 school year. More than $965,000 in tax credit scholarships has been confirmed to date. It is not too late to still donate in order to benefit from a 2018 tax credit and also help send a student to a Catholic school. Information on how to donate is attached.

Weekly Adoration

Our parish is most fortunate in having Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament each Thursday. We remember His words on the morning before he was crucified “Can you not watch one hour with me?”. That is our invitation. Many people attend sometime during the day for quiet personal adoration and prayer. In order to help ensure that we have two people with the Blessed Sacrament at all times, we invite parishioners to sign up for the same time each month.

Adoration is from 8:30am-5:30pm. Signup can be found here :https://tinyurl.com/y9bvra4f
