Happy Friday! Someone forgot to tell the weather that today is the first day of fall! It’s been really warm this week at SMS. Thank goodness for the air conditioning in parts of the building. Our younger students have been able to get a bit of relief from the heat at times by visiting classrooms that are cooler. It looks like the weather will return to more fall-like temperatures by the middle of next week. Until then, we will do our best to keep cool.
Parents of students in grades 4-8 should be receiving a mid-term progress report via email for their child today. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s grades, please do not hesitate to contact their teacher.

All School Fundraiser
WHOAAAAA!! Thank you to all who participated in any way!!! Your support is greatly appreciated! Once we have a final number from Great American Opportunities, we will share the amount of money raised. We have a good estimate right now, but we want to wait to release the final number until we have the final amount. We had 76 students participate in the fundraiser with about 25 of them earning a trip to ELEVATE trampoline park. We have had a lot of questions surrounding the trip and we want to clarify that the trip will NOT be happening in the next week or so. There are many things that come into play when planning a trip like this. So we ask you to please hang tight, and when all numbers are recounted by the company and final numbers are released the planning stages will start! Thank you for your patience.
We are still in need of volunteers, especially for our Book Fair. We are also in need of game monitors for the Halloween Harvest Festival. (You can dress up if you like!) Room parents are still needed for several of our classrooms. A new volunteer opportunity has been added to our list. We need 10 volunteers to help monitor classrooms on Oct. 5th during Grandparents Luncheon so that our teachers can have lunch. To volunteer to help with this need, look for Grandparents Day on the SignUp Genius page. The page can be accessed via this link: https://tinyurl.com/sms-volunteers2017-2018
