Virtue of the Month-Gratitude

During the month of November, in the spirit of giving, there will be several opportunities to show our gratitude for all that we have, and help those less fortunate. The week of November 12th will be “Give Back” week at SMS. We will be holding a canned food drive, sponsored by Student Council. In addition, the cheerleaders will be raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis (with the proceeds donated to the Peoria Area Cystic Fibrosis Chapter), including a Jeans for Genes Day on Thursday, November 15. For a $1 donation, students and staff will be allowed to wear jeans and their favorite purple shirt to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. (More details to come in next week’s eFolder.)

*Participation in these opportunities is completely optional!

S.M.A.R.T. Kids

It’s getting COLD out! The last meeting of our S.M.A.R.T. Kids will be this coming Monday, November 5th and will be a pizza party. (Please have your child bring their own drink.) S.M.A.R.T. Kids will resume in the Spring.

Nets for Vets

On Tuesday, Nov. 6th and Wednesday, November 7th students in PreK 3 thru 8th Grade will be participating the the Nets for Vets Fundraiser for the Honor Flight here in Central Illinois during their PE classes. Students each have an envelope for any donations they receive and for every $10 they raise, they will be entered into a drawing for an iPad. Please fill out your child’s information and return the envelopes next week. If you have any questions about this fundraiser, please contact Mrs. Schafer at sschafer

Thank you so much for helping to honor our Military Veterans.

Career and Resource Fair

St. Mark will host a Career and Resource Fair on November 8th from 6:00-7:30 PM, to share information about Career Exploration and Community Resources. We will also share information about Scholarship Opportunities (as it relates to St. Mark School and Peoria Notre Dame). If you would like to attend, please RSVP to the school office.

Dress Code

Just a heads up that from November 1st until April 1st, shorts and skorts are not allowed as part of the uniform. Sweatpants and flannel pants can be worn under skirts and jumpers on the playground for warmth, but are not allowed in the building. Girls may wear leggings under jumpers and skirts, but all leggings must be ankle length solid black or navy. Also, please remember that only the royal or navy St. Mark sweatshirts are part of the uniform. IESA sweatshirts can be worn outside for warmth, but are considered spirit wear, not part of the uniform.

Illinois Invest in Kids Tax Credit Scholarship Program

The Invest in Kids Scholarship is offered through the Illinois’ Tax Credit Scholarship program and generates private dollars for K-12 scholarships to low-income and working-class students who attend qualified non-public schools throughout Illinois.

St. Mark had approximately $47,000 available to award families. 87 students applied for assistance and 18 students were awarded scholarships. This was 20% of the students needing assistance for this school year. Based on need and first-come, first-serve basis, these families received 100%, 75%, or 50% of their tuition, and the donor receives a 75% Illinois tax credit on the amount of their donation to the SGO, Scholarship Granting Organization. We are grateful to all of our donors, and truly appreciate their help!

As you can see, we still have a great need for donations. Please contact the school if you would like more information regarding donating to the 2018 tax credit for the Illinois Invest in Kids Program.

The largest fundraiser for the school is looking for your help! St. Mark’s School’s 20th auction will be held on March 30! We are looking for another co-chair as well as help with all the committees (acquisitions, decorations, set up, dessert dash, etc.) for this very fun event! Interested in helping or learning more? Please contact Maria Carroll at mariakingcarroll@gmail.com
