Happy Friday! Happy Friday! It seems like we’ve skipped spring and jumped straight into summer. Hopefully it will be just a bit cooler next week.

Please keep our second graders and their families in your prayers as they complete their preparation and make their First Communion on Sunday at the 11 AM Mass.

End of Year Balances

The last day of school is only three weeks away. Please remember that ALL financial obligations must be taken care of by that date. This includes tuition, lunch, and aftercare balances. It also includes any activity fees, as well as library fines and fees. If these balances are not paid by the end of the school year, report cards will be held until payment is received. In addition, no records will be sent to other schools including PND. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact the office to discuss options.

May Crowning and Awards Day

Next Friday, May 11, is our May Crowning and Awards Day. The day will begin with May Crowning at 8:30AM followed by Mass at 9 AM. Students are invited to bring a flower for Our Blessed Mother. We will begin Awards Day in the gym immediately following Mass. Parents are invited to attend all events.

Talent Show Auditions

Our annual school talent show is coming up Friday, May 18th! (Time will be determined based off of how many acts are participating.) Auditions for this event are being held Thursday, May 10th and Friday, May 11th after school in the music room. All grade levels are open to participate, but they do need to be well prepared for their audition! We’re looking forward to seeing some great talent!

Field Day

We are preparing for our end of year PBIS celebration! For a successful event, we need parent volunteers and supplies. The Field Day will be from 8:00AM-11:30AM on May 22nd. Our tentative rain date is May 23rd. Please consider signing up to help our First Annual PBIS Field Day! Any questions? Contact rmedland.


K – 5 will participate in the field day at St. Mark’s.

Jr. High will participate in the field day at Bradley Park.

Students will be offered a sack lunch as their hot lunch option on that day! Order sheets will be sent home soon. Please return ASAP and let your child’s teacher know if they will be bringing their own lunch.

Totus Tuus

This summer’s Titus Tuus will be held June 17-22. There will be sessions for students in grades 1-6, as well as one for middle and high schoolers (grades 7-12). Please contact Terry Mischler at (309) 497-2838 or Peggy Flynn at (309) 303-9320 with any questions.

Summer Program

This Summer St. Mark’s is happy to offer their Summer Target Program. Students will receive one – on- one tutoring from a teacher. Sign your child up today!

Registration for the 2018-19 School Year

Please complete your online registration for the 2018-19 school year as soon as possible. This year’s registration forms are online and can be accessed through your Renweb Parents’ Web account. Log on to Parents’ Web, click on the Family Information tab on the left side of the page, and then select Enrollment/Re-enrollment. This will take you to our online enrollment forms. If you have any questions, or need assistance completing the forms, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

As part of the registration process all families are required to complete and return the Tuition Pledge and Scholarship Form. If you have not yet returned this form, please do so as soon as possible. If you need another copy, please contact the school office.

Empower Illinois Scholarship

Scholarships offered through the new “Invest in Kids Act” could cover 50 to 100 percent of tuition and eligible charges for your child next year. Applications are still being accepted and scholarships will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis, so it is very important to act quickly! Key information about the program and application process is available on www.empowerillinois.org

Eligibility notification began, April 2nd

On April 2nd parents and guardians began to receive email notification of their students’ eligibility for an Empower Illinois Scholarship. A new round of email notifications will be sent each Monday until all applicants have received notification of their eligibility.

Parents and guardians may have questions about their specific eligibility status, and applicants are encouraged to carefully read the instructions included in their eligibility notification email. Parents may visit the Empower website for additional information or email scholars with your questions.

IMPORTANT: Email invitations to complete an Empower Illinois Scholarship application will continue to be sent at the same time; please remember that this email invitation process may take several weeks.

Education Savings Opportunity

Effective January 1, 2018, families may now use 529 education savings plans for K-12 tuition at private schools. Grandparents, godparents, aunts and uncles can help fund a 529 and send a child to a Catholic school. Families should consult with their tax and financial advisors.

Daddy/Daughter Dance

Don’t be late for this very important date! Follow the white rabbit to the Daddy/Daughter Dance at St. Mark’s School. It will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $15 per Dad and daughters are free. Please register at the school office by Friday, May 4. Tickets

Used Uniform Sale

St. Mark School will host an Used Uniform Sale this summer. Please donate your child’s outgrown, gently used school uniforms and sports uniforms. Blue storage bins for these items will be located in the main entry of the school. We would appreciate your uniform donations of both Girl and Boy: White or Navy blue polo shirts, uniform plaid skirts and jumpers, Navy shorts or pants, sweatshirts, spirit wear, and soccer shirts. Prices for used uniforms range from $1.00 – $5.00 at the sale.

We are in the process of finalizing our 2018-19 school calendar. Here are some tentative dates for future planning.

  • Christmas Break: Monday, December 24th-Friday, January 4th

  • Spring Break: Monday, April 15th-Monday, April 22nd


All library books need to be returned to the SMS library no later than May 11. All fines must be paid before the last day of school.

PND News

PND Dance Camp

PND is holding a Summer Dance Camp. The camp is open to girls in Grades 4-8, and will be held June 10-14 from 8-10 AM. Cost is $40. Please contact Tally Sevier at pnddanceteam with questions or for more information.

PND Cheerleading Camp

The PND cheerleaders are hosting a summer cheer camp for incoming K-8th graders June 4-7. The camp will be held from 8-10 AM Monday-Wednesday, with a performance on Thursday. A


Notre Dame Junior Football League is now accepting registrations at www.ndjfl.com. They offer flag football for ages 8-14. They also offer Cheerleading for ages 8-14. You help in registering before Tuesday, June 1 allows them to order the right number of equipment for the upcoming season. Please contact pndjfl@gmail with any questions.

PND Shadow Visits

Eighth grade students are invited to experience a day in the life of a PND student by scheduling a shadow visit. Shadow visitors will have a chance to explore the PND campus, attend classes and lunch and learn more about the activities that PND offers.
