eFolder for February 9

Happy Friday! Winter is certainly letting us all know that it’s still with us. Snow and cold, and then even more snow. Please remember to dress your children for winter weather. While we will go out for recess only when conditions allow, students are still outside at some point during the day-waiting to be picked up or traveling back and forth from church for Mass and adoration. Many of our students are NOT wearing coats. (Most of them are middle school students.) Also, please let your children know that if we do have outdoor recess and they have forgotten their gloves, mittens,or hat, we do keep some on hand in the office. All they have to do is ask!

Just a reminder…there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 19 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

Auction – Save the Date!

Save the Date! Our 19th annual auction, Under the Big Top, will be held on Saturday, March 24.

Please note that every family can lend a helping hand. It is crucial to make this event a big success. Much of the tuition assistance we were able to award this year was a result of the great turnout and money raised last year. If you have applied for assistance or plan to this year, be sure to show your support to the auction! There are various ways you can help:

  • Solicit donations

  • Pick up already solicited donations

  • Help assemble baskets

  • Make baked goods

  • Transport items to the auction venue

  • Help with decorations

  • Clean up after the auction

In addition, if you would like to make a donation or know of someone who would be willing to donate to our fundraiser, please contact Andrea Kupferschmid, our auction chair, at kups4. All donations to the auction, big or small, are greatly appreciated and are fully tax-deductible.

Auction Meeting

There will be an auction meeting on Sunday, February 11 at 6PM in the rectory basement. The committee will be making baskets and could use the help if you are available.

Yearbook Pictures

The yearbook committee needs your pictures. Please send in photos of first day of school, extra-curricular activities, sports, Masses and Christmas program and candid photos. These can be sent to yearbook. We look forward to showcasing all the awesome things that make our students proud to be part of the Marksmen family. Questions? Please contact Ms. Wharton via email swharton.

Empower Illinois Scholarship Update

A message from Empower Illinois:

“Dear Parents and Schools,

We wanted to provide you an update about our tax credit scholarship application.

Over the past week we have identified the technology problems that caused our application to fail and are now in the process of solidifying solutions to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Demand for the Empower Illinois scholarship is significant, last week resulted in one of the largest day 1 launches in the country ever.

In addition to leading technology experts, we have brought together a diverse group of partners from the secular, Lutheran, Catholic, Muslim and Jewish school communities to oversee the work and to set the path forward. In addition to adding capacity, we are also working to lessen the drain on servers and make the application process less stressful.

As a result, we are still likely at least two weeks away from making the application available. An exact date has not been determined but we will provide at least one week notice before the application reopens.

It’s important to remember that this is a delay only and does not impact the availability of scholarships from us or other SGOs in the state. The program has received $45 million in pledges and we are all working hard to raise more for Illinois kids.

We know your children only get one chance at a great education and providing a fair opportunity for families to get an Empower Illinois scholarship is our highest priority.

Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page and we will continue to email those who have signed up via our website.

Thank you for your continued patience.”

“Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age”

Mark your calendars for the St. Mark’s showing of “Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age” on Wednesday, February 21st from 6:30pm in the gym. In SCREENAGERS, as with her award winning documentaries on health, Delaney Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. To check it out: https://www.screenagersmovie.com

If you cannot attend our showing of SCREENAGERS, the following parishes will also be showing this movie:
