Thursday, March 1 is an 11:30AM dismissal. There will be NO LUNCH and NO AFTERCARE on that day. Please make sure that your children are picked up promptly so that we can begin our Faculty meeting on time.

“Screenagers: Growing Up in a Digital Age”
Thanks to the parents who came out last night to watch the documentary of Screenagers. It is a great reminder of what challenges we face with the ever-changing world of technology.

Empower Illinois Update
Empower Illinois Scholarship Application Opens Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7:00PM

We are pleased to announce the Empower Illinois scholarship application system will open on Tuesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. Our system has been enhanced to make it easier for families and to manage the demand expected for tax credit scholarships to private schools throughout Illinois.
The new application will be available through the Empower Illinois website. It will be a two-step process.
Reserve: On Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m. families will complete a brief online form containing name and contact information, child name and preferred school. This will time stamp your application for the first-come, first-served scholarships. Doors will open at 6:45PM.
Apply: After reserving your place in line, families will be emailed a unique link and use their reservation code to complete the application. Applications will be sent on a rolling basis, over the course of a few weeks. After receiving the application email, families will have 3 days to complete the application and submit all required documents.
Our goal with this two-step process is to make it easier for families and provide more time to ensure your application is accurate and complete.
We understand that as parents and guardians, your life is busy. That’s why the reservation system will be accessible from mobile devices as well. Everything you will need for the reservation step should be top of mind. Once you get your application link, please use a computer to submit the required documents and finish the application accurately, without rushing.
If a student has already received a scholarship award letter, they do not need to reserve or apply. However, all other students should reserve and apply through this system beginning Feb. 27, regardless of how far you may have gotten through our old application.
As you can see, the first part can be completed from your mobile device. If you need help to complete this first step, we will be available in the computer lab to assist you. Please contact the school to let us know if you plan to be here on February 27th at 7:00pm. Once you receive your email to complete the process, you may also contact the school for assistance.

The John Lancaster Spalding Scholarship Endowment Fund was established with funds raised in the Diocese of Peoria ROOTED IN FAITH Campaign. This scholarship is need based and awards to be used in the 2018–2019 school year will be announced by May 30, 2018.
The application deadline date is April 15, 2018, and all 2017 tax documentation/requirements necessary to complete the application must be submitted to FACTS by that date. Families are encouraged to apply early.
The Protocols and Procedures and a handy Checklist to guide families through the application process can be found on the diocesan website: www.cdop.org, under Catholic Education and then under Financial Assistance. Spanish versions will soon be available online.
Parents are be urged to apply online and can access the FACTS application form at: online.factsmgt.com/aid. The application is available in both English and Spanish.

THANK YOU to all of you that came out and showed support for the students and graduates of SMS at the Pasta fundraiser this past Sunday. With your support they were able to raise about $1300 to help aid in their efforts for summer mission trips and conferences.
SMS 19th Annual Auction – Under the Bigtop
Save the Date! Our 19th annual auction, Under the Big Top, will be held on Saturday, March 24.
Please note that every family can lend a helping hand. It is crucial to make this event a big success. Much of the tuition assistance we were able to award this year was a result of the great turnout and money raised last year. If you have applied for assistance or plan to this year, be sure to show your support to the auction! There are various ways you can help:
Pick up already solicited donations
Help assemble baskets
Make baked goods
Transport items to the auction venue
Help with decorations
Clean up after the auction
