We are getting ready to close out this year’s Catholic Schools Week. It’s been crazy, but it’s been a lot of fun celebrating our school. This morning we hosted future Marksmen at our Kindergarten Round-Up. Tomorrow night we will close out this year’s celebration with our annual Taste of St. Mark. Doors open at 5PM, and there will be many different types of food to enjoy. Thank you in advance to all of our SMS parents and businesses for participating. This event is always guaranteed to be a good time. If you know of anyone who is interested in all the good things that are happening here at the “Beacon on the Hilltop”, please invite them to attend tomorrow night’s event. Our faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions. They will be easy to spot…wearing grey shirts with the Catholic Schools Week logo on the back and the SMS logo on the front.
Congratulations to our 8th grade boys basketball team on winning the IESA Regional tournament last night with a victory over Hollis Grade School. They boys will now advance to the state sectional game on Wednesday, February 7 at St. Mary’s Kickapoo. The game will start at 6:30pm. GO MARKSMEN!

Empower Illinois Scholarship Update
At this point, we do not know when the Empower Illinois website will be up and ready to accept applications again. Wednesday was a disaster as far as trying to access the website and complete an application. Their website was overwhelmed by the over 24,000 people trying to complete applications as soon as the site went live. We will keep everyone updated on when the application process will be opened again. If you would like to stay updated, “like” the Empower Illinois Facebook page.
The America Reads tutoring program resumed this week. Please make sure that if your child is signed up that they remember to attend. If you do not know your child’s scheduled time, please contact the office.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Catholic Schools Week food drive. The West-Mark Pantry is extremely grateful for your generosity. Thank you for helping those less fortunate. Thank you, too, to Haddad’s Grocery for the use of their carts.

“Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age”
Mark your calendars for the St. Mark’s showing of “Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age” on Wednesday, February 21st from 6:30pm in the gym. In SCREENAGERS, as with her award winning documentaries on health, Delaney Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. To check it out: https://www.screenagersmovie.com
