Happy Friday! We survived the first week of school. Our enrollment is steady, and we welcomed over 40 new students to SMS! We are so glad that you are now part of our Marksmen family!
We will continue our heat schedule with 1:30PM dismissal through next week. There is no school on Labor Day, Sept. 4th. After Labor Day we will begin our regular day schedule, and will dismiss at 3PM.
Back to School Night
In last week’s eFolder, I reminded you to mark your calendar for our Back to School Night, but I forgot to tell you the date. Our Back to School Nght will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at 6:30PM. We ask that only parents and guardians attend…no students, please! We will begin the night in the gym with important information and teacher introductions. Parents will then be allowed to visit their children’s classrooms to meet with the teacher and to learn more about classroom routines, schedules, and expectations. This is not a night to try to meet one-on-one with your child’s teacher. If you need to discuss something with the teacher, please schedule a time so that she can give you her undivided attention.
We will also offer an opportunity for parents wishing to volunteer in the school or drive on field trips to complete the mandated Safe Environment training as well as be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting will be available from 6-7PM, and the Safe Environment training will be held in the library from 7:30-8:30PM. Both fingerprinting and the Safe Environment training must be completed by anyone wishing to volunteer in the school. This includes grandparents. If you or another member of your family would like to volunteer in the school, but cannot attend the training, please contact the office to make other arrangements.
In addition to the Safe Environment training and fingerprinting, anyone who is interested in driving on field trips will need to complete a Safe Driver training. This training can be accessed online on the Catholic Mutual website: https://cmgconnect.org. Follow the instructions to create a user account. Once you have registered you will be able to take the Safe Driver training. This training is also available in Spanish, if needed.
Beginning of the Year Testing
We started our beginning of the year testing this week. Our 3rd, 5th, and 7th graders will complete MAP and Easy CBM testing next week. The rest of the students in grades Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th will test in the next week or so. The 3rd, 5th, and 7th graders will get a short break before beginning the ITBS tests the week of Sept. 11th. We ask that you make sure that your child gets plenty of rest and a good breakfast. In addition, if at all possible, please try not to schedule appointments during the morning.
Each family received a packet of forms earlier this week. If you have not done so already, please return these forms as soon as possible. We are in the process of updating our family and student information in Renweb and need to make sure that we have everyone’s current information.
Students who returned all the necessary forms by today’s deadline received a uniform pass to be used next Friday, Sept. 1st. The office will let the students know if they are able to be out of uniform on that day.
If you did not receive a packet, or have misplaced it, please contact the office and we will send another set of forms.
Picture Day will be Wednesday, Sept. 6th. Students will be allowed to wear nice clothes on that day. They will not have to be in uniform. When selecting clothes for school pictures, please keep in mind that all clothing must be Catholic school appropriate.
Required Immunizations and Physicals
Please send in any required immunizations and school physical, dental and vision forms as soon as possible. If you have not yet taken your child for these exams and/or immunizations, please let the office know when you have an appointment scheduled. All forms must be turned into the school office before Oct. 1st. This is a state requirement.
