eFolder for April 7

We will celebrate Palm Sunday this Sunday, and then enter Holy Week. Please take time next week to participate in the Easter Triduum with your children if at all possible. This is a wonderful way to follow Jesus on His journey to the Cross and to prepare for the celebration of HIs Resurrection.

Blue and Gold Auction

Thank you to everyone who helped with our annual auction in any way, big or small. It was a huge success and we were able to surpass our goal! A special thank you to Andrea Kupferschmid for the hours and hours of work to make this night a great success. Thank you to the members of the auction committee, those who donated items and money, and to those who attended this fundraiser. Each and every one of you helped to make this night great. THANK YOU!

If you purchased an item the night of the auction, but did not pick it up, it will be available for pickup in the school office.

Reminders

We will be on Easter Break Monday, April 10th through Monday April 17th. School will resume on Tuesday, April 18th. When we return from Easter Break we will begin our final round of testing. Please make sure that your children arrive at school on time, as some classes will begin testing at 8AM. If possible, please do not schedule appointments for your children in the morning, as that is when most of the testing will take place. Also, please make sure that they have a good breakfast to fuel their brains. Thank you for insuring that your child has a successful testing session.

Fine Arts Event

Congratulations to Mrs. Placko on another awesome art show! It was a great time and the artwork on display was amazing as always. Thank you, too, to Mrs. Ulrich and Miss Koch for the sneak peak of the spring musical. Nice job, ladies!

Thank You from Mrs. Mischler

Dear Parents,

I cannot begin to say thanks enough to all of you for the gift of a substitute teacher for a day! Your amazing generosity allowed me to visit with some of our grandchildren on grandparents’ day at their school this week! It is such a blessing in my life to have the opportunity to be with all of you and your children at SMS!

May God continue to shower His blessings upon all of you and your families!

St. Phil’s Capstone Project Needs Your Help

Dear Principals and Librarians,

At St. Philomena school as 8th graders we complete a project called the Capstone Project. The Capstone Project is a project where eighth graders pick an organization to research and complete a service for. For our Capstone Project my classmate and I are collecting new or gently used children’s books for the Women’s Care Center.

The Women’s Care Center is a nonprofit organization that assists pregnant women who are often dealing with unplanned or unwanted pregnancies. The women who go to the center receive counseling and free ultrasounds. The center has decreased the number of abortions in the Peoria area in staggering amounts and is an important part of our community.

At the Women’s Care Center there is a large box containing books for little kids whose mothers come to the center. The children who come are encouraged to take one or two books home and have their mom’s read to them. This develops a deep bond between mothers and their children and helps the kids develop a love for reading.

We were wondering if your school had any old kids books that are not read anymore. We would love to bring a box to your school that could be filled up with books for the Women’s Care Center. If this may work out please send us a reply as promptly as possible.

Sincerely,

Ryley Twedell and Mariam Couri
